What's the conversion of ballet pointe shoes?

I'm looking to purchase a pair of pointe ballet shoes, and I wear a size 7 street shoe.. What is the appropriate size in ballet point shoes for me to get?

What's the conversion of ballet pointe shoes?sunshine

It depends on the shoe. If you get it fitted, the person should know all conversions. If you're ordering online (which I do not recommend in the slightest), the sizing chart will be there. At least it's there at www.discountdance.com.

Good luck, hope I helped.??

What's the conversion of ballet pointe shoes?star theater opera theater

9/8 what size are your ballet flats it should be slightly smaller than that but you need to try them and and get them fitted really.

as long as you classes they should tell if you dont do pointe classes dont get shoes.
Each brand has a different conversion. Your best bet is to get fitted at a ballet supply store.

If you dont have that option where you live, ask your teacher which brand they suggest , and then purchase at least 3 pairs in different sizes based on the conversion chart . Your teacher will be able to help you pick the best one.
it completely depends on the pointe shoe. if you look in a dance cataloge (such as Discount Dance) it will usually tell you the conversion for that particular shoe you are looking at. I normally wear size 6.5 and i wear 4.5 in Grishko pointe shoes.
wait, you're making it seem like you are going to wear these for fun (I'm looking to purchase.....). THESE SHOES ARE NOT FOR FUN! They are very uncomfortable, and for dancing in only. However, if you simply worded it wrong, get them fitted, and don't buy them online the first time. Go to your local dance store. POINTE SHOES ARE NOT STREET WEAR.

Streaches for ballet?

im starting up ballet again, but i wanna start to do some basics at home so im not too out of shape when i start again in feb or march. so can any one tell me streaches that the actually do in class or at home to help with splits and what not. i dont want anything u found on the internet i want what u have done and know works.

Streaches for ballet?musicals

dont push yourself too hard u'll get hurt

splits are always a good start if they are flat on the floor or against the wall. Preferably for ballet i would use against the wall but if you find that hard it wouldnt reli matter

also work on your point and flex sit on the floor with your back straight and legs flat on the ground in frount of u (straight) point flex point flex for as many times as necisarry and then reach down

hope this helps

Questions about ballet to improve balance and jumping?

My basketball coach wants me to attend some ballet classes run by a female ex-gym teacher at our school as a condition on keeping me on the team, in order for me to improve and work on both my balance and leaps. Basically he wants me to be more light footed and more effortless/graceful in jumping to get the most out of my potential. He said if I think this is for sissies then I'd have a real shock coming to me and this ex-teacher won't cut me any slack.

I've got to stop by the dance school on Monday night to meet her and also find out what clothing/shoes I have to buy for the class and learn more about what I am going to do there. She's putting me in a beginners class, I know that much.

Anyone have any idea what will be involved in the classes and also what male students normally have to wear for these kinds of classes?

Questions about ballet to improve balance and jumping?performing arts show

Ballet is extremely difficult, and you will be very sore for the first few weeks if your teacher is running the class right and you're making an effort. You will also use muscles you didn't know you had. Guys wear a dance belt (supportive underwear to keep things in place), tights, black ballet slippers, and a black or white tight-fitting tshirt. You may consider cutting your hair, but you will never be required to put it in a bun. Only girls do that.

A traditional ballet class will start with barre exercises: http://www.abt.org/education/dictionary/...

Then you will have exercises in the center and across the floor.

Good luck to you, my friend. You will need it.

if your just in a beginners class i think a ponytail should be fine. i suggest you were shorts and bare feet. in the first couple of classes you'll probably lean about balance. good luck XD
Tie your hair up. No need to have it cut.
if its anything like my dance school you should get ur hair cut. in a begining class expect small jumps in 1st, 2nd. changements, basic tendues, battements, normal leaps, foot cramps, blisters, calluses, aching, (well maybe not in beginning, but for most dancing expect that if u do it correctly) o and you should expect ballet kicks, more jetes, only basic things, nothing hard at all, when u get in the advanced class, then you need to worry, i'm proud that you decided to start dancing, you wont regret it.
have to have ponytail if it is in ur face.

At a studio u wear at a t-shirt and tights

at a not so serious studio u would wear t-shirt and shorts.

Inflexibility in Ballet?

I am very inflexible in a bad way. I just started ballet. Is there any one there who can help me with more stretches and warmups so i can atleast gain some flexibility. What i need help most with is the splits, thats what everyone is learning. Everyone is way ahead of me because of my inflexibility is there any stretches or warmups to make doing them any easier?? Please Help

Inflexibility in Ballet?ballet theater

Warm up for a few minutes before you stretch - And note that people are more inflexible in the morning than at night. The right way to stretch is slow and relaxed. DO NOT BOUNCE. Bouncing can actually cause you to pull the muscle you are trying to stretch.

You should stretch to the point of "MILD OR MODERATE TENSION". If you overstretch you may cause damage. Back off (slowly) if the stretch feels painful.

Hold each stretch for a minimum of 20 seconds each, without bouncing. BREATHE slowly and naturally. Do not hold your breathe while stretching. Relax the stretch. Each time you breathe out try to relax further into the stretch a little more. Again, only to the point of mild or moderate tension.

It's a good idea to be doing stretches for your entire body - do a search for "stretching exercises" to see what those are. Meanwhile check the following website:

http://exercise.about.com/cs/flexibility...

for stretches which are good for front back splits. Hamstring Stretch; Inner Thigh Stretch; Lunge Stretch; Kneeling Hamstring stretch [you need pictures to show stretching and I can't get those to show on this]

And practice stretching for about an hour in the morning and one hour at night.

This is the last thing you will want to hear! But learning the splits takes a lot of time. And it's different for everybody.

Doing the splits is more of an excersise, a stretch, a warm up for ballet class. When do you ever see the splits performed on stage in a classical ballet? You don't, not on the floor. They are used in grand jetes, arasesques and other things that require great flexibility to do to their full extent.

So you need to ask yourself why you want your splits? Is it just to be able to show off and say you can do them? Or does it work towards a larger goal?

The main thing you can do is stretch every day or two (for some people it is good to have a rest day.) You should know some stretches from class. Use the ones you do in sport at school, as well. You should warm up (run around a bit, do some isolations, star jumps etc), then do some stretching. Do not practise the splits cold.

Ask your teacher and fellow peers for some good splits excersises.
Don't get me started on splits! I have agony each time I'm in class doing them!

Yoga is absolutely awesome for strength and flexibility, as well as pilates. Stick with it. I nearly died for a few weeks when I first started dancing, but it's amazing how your body adapts.
for splits here are some stretches and exercises-

first start out by stretching and warming up your leg muscles make sure you stretch your hamstrings and calves out really welll before starting also it helps to take a hot shower before hand to warm up your muscles.

stretch- this is aresistance stretch, face your bathroom or kitchen counter top and put one leg on it, then (using your leg muscles) push down as hard as you can for 30 seconds, rest and then do 30 more seconds, (repeat with other leg)

stretch-this is another resistance stretch, face away from your bathroom or kitchen counter and place your leg (knee down) on the counter and using your leg muscles push as hard as you can down for 30 seconds then rest then 30 more seconds(repeat on other side)

training-this I call pillow splits, forst put a bunch of pillows underneath you it can be as amny as 20 or as little as 5 and ease down into the splits stay there for a while and just hang out, watch t.v., finish homework, etc. then over the days remove a pilloe or two at a time and let gravity do it's work (remember to do both splits)

training-this is a swimthrough exercise for your middle splits or straddle splits, first you are going to put both feet infront of you parallell, count to 5, then you are going to slide into your middle split, hold for5, then go back to parallell, count to 5, then go into your middle splits but lean forwad onto your stomach and use your arms to push yourself forward and out of your middle splits so your feet end up behind you (tat is called a swim through) repeat this 4 times

training- over splits are pretty slef explanatory, find a small chair or stack 1 or 2 pillows up and place your front foot on top of your surface then slide down into your splits and hold it, (remebr to do all 3 sides)

training-find a wall with nothing in the way sit with your butt against the wall and put your legs out into a straddle and push down with your own leg muscle as hard as you can and hold it for at least a minute

training-lay down on your back and take one leg and oulling it towards your nose as hard as you can remeber to do this withboth legs.

then the last and best thing yo can do is just to stretch and hold your splits on a regular basis

-if oyuhave any othe questions email me at lulublue2@gmail.com

-hope this helps some : )
Warm up with some plies and staccato jumps in 1st-5th positions. then stretch stretch stretch. Stretch in the morning when you wake up and at night before you go to bed. do it everyday and you will see some improvement. But dont expect it to be immediate you have to work at it. Stretching also improves your extension.

Are those ballet type shoes appropriate for prom?

My date is my height, so I don't want to wear heels.

My dress isn't your typical prom dress. It's tea-length, with a chiffon overlay that goes down farther. The whole dress is pink.

So, would those ballet-type flats be appropriate?

Are those ballet type shoes appropriate for prom?concert tickets

Sure, I actually think that would be quite cute. Id get a silver ballet flat, so it doesn't look so "matchy"

Are those ballet type shoes appropriate for prom?theater seating opera theater

Not really but if you must, you must.
Absolutely!!! Think about it... Everyone takes their shoes off @ prom anyways. I knew some girls who wore flip flops. I would definately wear flats (only if it is a long dress.) Nobody sees your feet anyways.
Sure, maybe just not the rubber-sneaker type. Get the ones that are more dressy.
Sure why not? They're definitely in style right now....very cute....and it would save you from a LOT of pain so you could concentrate on your hot date instead of your screaming in pain toes!
sure, I think those would be great! I wore white satin ones with my wedding dress. You could even dress them up with a little lace or rhinestones if you wanted them to be a little fancier!
if they look good with the dress and you love them then absolutely. just make sure your dress doesnt drag all over the floor and get ruined. oh what i would do to go back to my prom!!
I actually think that flats are a good idea for prom, especially because you'll be dancing, a lot of girls end up taking off their shoes to dance, but wearing flats, you won't have that problem.

And it helps the height issue.

As long as the flats are more formal, I think it'd be cute.

Have fun. ?
sweetie it is your body and if you have the balls to wear em then by all means do it

a friend of mine is wearing converse hi tops with her dress

i am wearing gold gladiator sandals

and my reason is that it will be easier to dance in and my bf is my height too

ballet flats are totally cute

just as long as you look nice and not all short and stumpy because tea length dresses tend to shoeten a person

i say go for it
I don't think it would be appropriate, nor do I think it would look good with your dress, but it could? Also, you could try kitten heels, or a very very low heel shoe. Have fun at the prom =]
I don't think so. But maybe after prom. If u go to a party after the prom. Maybe u can find a low heels so u won't be as much taller than your date.
Normally no, but being that your date is ur height and the style of dress your wearing, I think it'll be cute.
if they're really really cute and go well with your outfit, sure. but a lot of people wear them to school on like no special occasion. but today i saw this really cute like creme silk pair.

sure, for prom. good luck!
yea, they are appropriate but they have to be formal its actually a good idea because they're more comfortable to dance and have a good in. by the end of they night your feet wont be hurting. good luck. have fun at your prom
If wearing them will make you feel comfortable then you should wear them. Why not? Plus they have all kinds of styles so I'm sure that you will find some that go perfect with your dress. Just remember that you want to be happy with your pictures because when you look back at them you don't want to be hating the fact that you don't like them because you wont ever be able to have a second prom!
sure it is! since these are in style right now...y not!?

Can I lie about my age to get into ballet?

I am 23 years old and I am getting very very good at ballet. I want to know ... can I lie about my age to get into a ballet company? Can I lie about my age on my exams at the ballet studio I am at? I know how cutthroat the ballet world is and don't want my age to come before my talent.

Can I lie about my age to get into ballet?performing art center

these days, age matters less than technique. most companies would allow you to audtion....if your honest. lying is a great way to get in and then get thrown out when they figure it out. how long could you keep that up? and don't like to your studio either...if you get caught, the ballet world is a small one, and you will find out that its more cuthroat than you think...get black listed at one studio/company, and its over. no one will train you, employ you, allow you to sit in the audience. just be honest, and most companies dont ask your age at the audtion. they watch you perform, set up an interview, and then....you go from there. good luck!

Can I lie about my age to get into ballet?theatre tickets opera theater

it depends if your lying to make you be younger, thats ok but if your lying to make you look older, thats not a good idea. because you were already there at that age all you have to do is go back.
lying gets you nowhere! if you get found out for lying, you'll get thrown out anyway, so i really wouldn't bother. x
The choice is up to you BUT think about both sides of your own question:

Pro: If you lie you can get in and start achieveing your dream slightly eariler then the rest so you MIGHT have a little extra boost.

Con: With the total and utter lack of privacy on the internet ther is a 99.9% chance that your real information will come to light and they might punish you for your deception by kicking you out.

Which is more important to you?

Is a small advantage more important to you then getting found out and being kicked out for dishonesty??

Will another school take you after you are censured for lying by the company you were at?

I, personally, don't think it is worth the risk.

But you will do what you want to do... I just hope you have both the positive and negative outcomes in your head when you do it.
id say if it'd help you go for it, whatever it takes. but could you pull off the age you'd be saying? and what would happen if they found out? cos they chances are if you lie, sooner or later you'll be found out.
i dont think you should because it could come back and they could find out that you are lying. if you are good enough it wont matter what your age is.
What if someone finds out you're lying? Wouldn't that look worse than being truthful about your age?
My daughter has been to a couple professional auditions (she's a senior BFA dance major) and age is not a factor that is needed on her resume or is asked about. All that the artistic directors care about is a) talent and skill and b) whether you've had any other professional experience. There is no reason for you to reveal your age.
if your really good

then the company wont mind if your too young or old

they just want the best

and u might get severe punishment for lying on an exam and to the company
when they do a backgroung check they'll fing out and it will diminish your chances to work in any company

Taking up ballet lessons as an adult?

I'm 22 now and I took ballet lessons from the age of 5-14. I danced pointe and got to a fairly advanced level. But between college (and other things) i've gotten out of shape. I've still retained by muscular legs and great arch, but I'm really not flexible anymore. Would I be able to take adult classes and get back en pointe? Any suggestions for getting back in shape? Thanks

Taking up ballet lessons as an adult?oper

Absolutely you can take an adult class. You will have to ease back into being more flexible and into "shape". Be sure you warm up really well and then stretch as best you can. Take it slow and don't overdo anything - the last thing you need is an injury that is slow to heal. At 22 you are hardly "old" and really shouldn't have a hard time. You should also be able to get back into the advanced womens classe after a few months (if not sooner). I've seen a bunch of women like you start off in adult class then as they get in shape and flexible move into a group that has more classes/week . Good Luck.

best way to get back in shape is to get back to class. meantime, you probably remember your barre work (plies, tendus, etc), so you can practice that around the house.

Personally, I highly suggest the Milwaukee ballet school. go to http://milwaukeeballet.org/ for more info on it. I take lessons at Kellar Dance Studio but thats in downtown waukesha. Ask your friend where she takes dance...that should be a good place to start as well, chances are very slim you'll be in the same class but you'll work your way up with practice over the years. Hope i could help some...I'm really glad you want to join!!!! Of course you can and don't give up! (its much harder then it looks) You CAN do it and its a lot of fun. You can totally take dance. I go to a studio in Florida and a bunch of people just joined and a lot of them are older than 13 and they are really good for beginners.
hey i want to do ballet too and i want to become a professional so if u wanna chat sopmtimes about dance then email me

What should i do when im practicing ballet every day? strength training ect?

k so im not taking a dance class but ive taken ballet, tap, and jazz, for over 8 years. ive recently stopped but i want to still stay in "dancer shape" lol and keep up with stretching and dancing on my own.

i still love to dance, especially ballet and i want to continue it as a hobby. every day im stretching for 30 minutes (20 before and 10 after i dance and work out) and im doing about 100 releves, 40 releve passes, 100 crunches, frappes, plies, and some other things.. lol but idk what else to do. its weird practicing on my own. so what are some daily ballet excersizes i could do? i was pretty advanced i think, if i signed up for classes for this year instead of quiting, i would be on pointe. i was already at company level. so if theres something youre not sure if i can do, just put it down and if i cant do it, i could probably learn it.

im just asking...cause i have been taking dance class ballet jazz etc for 7yrs and i just wanna know does your hymen break from that

Can taking ballet and dance class for 7yrs break your hymen?the grand theater

Yes it can. A girl's hymen can be broken by any kind of activity that puts strain on her genitals. Dancing could do it.

But don't worry about whether or not you have broken it. It won't hurt you to not have it, and (if you haven't started yet) when you start your period, you'd probably have broken it from tampon use. I can't imagine wearing a pad with leotards and dance costumes that are normally tight.

It doesn't mean that you aren't a virgin, or put you at any health risk. It's just a membrane that really doesn't do anything.

Can taking ballet and dance class for 7yrs break your hymen?soap opera opera theater

why would it?
No, it would only break from penetration of some kind or something strenuous like riding a horse..etc. It can break if was barely attached to start with. It really depends on the individual.
Any physical sorts or similar activity, such as gymnastics or dancing can break a girls hymen. Its not out of the realm of possibility.
No it can't,only have intercourse or inserting something deep inside can.
yes,any physical activity can result in your hymen being broken not just intercourse
yes,

it's just a thin layer of skin, any physical activity can break it.

Don't worry about it so much though, either way your prob. not ever really going to tell any difference.

NO!!! NEVER PUT SHOE POLISH ON BALLET SLIPPERS! NEVER EVER!

The only thing you can do is buy new ones.

I am assuming she does not need pointe shoes...LOL.

Here are some places to get ballet slippers.

http://www.justforkix.com/ballet_slipper...

Will shoe polish turn pink ballet shoes white?opera mini opera theater

Yes but it will eventually crack and you will need to reapply.
Just buy a new pair. The polish will continually rub off, plus it will look bad. Spring for the new shoes so your daughter won't feel self-conscious.
Shoe polish is made for hard surfaces. Ballet shoes are made of fabric, so you would have to dye them. Unfortunately, if she has already worn them, the dirt from the soles will get all over the shoes when you try to get them wet during the color-stripping process.
If her pointes are the silky ones the shoe polish will make them look hard and ugly, almost leathery.

I'd recommend putting a cap full of bleach in a bucket of hot water.

Let them soak for 10 minutes, and then take a lot of care to rinse them out properly using first hot and them cold water.

Let them air dry and maybe apply some polish to the soles to keep them soft if they are leather..

Hope this helps.
Ummm... I really dont think thats going to do much. Even the Cremes wont stain it enough.

You might want to just try bleaching them or something. I was a shoe shiner in Vegas so I know that polish definatly wont work.
You could do but it would make them very stiff and very uncomfortable. Get new ones.
Polish won't work.... you can only dye them....Better yet, search on E bay, a lot of good deals there and you could probably pick up another pair relatively cheap...Good luck!

Does practising ballet barefoot make your feet stronger?

I'm not at the pointe stage yet - yeah, I know how it's dangerous to do pointe work in bare feet, but I'm not there yet, so no worries! =p

I'm still middling with basic barre work, relev茅s, demi-pointe... playing around with that stuff, y'know. Just wondering if practising barefoot would make my feet stronger (as opposed to practising with ballet slippers).

Besides, I do prefer being barefoot, I love going up on my tippy toes barefoot wheehee ^_^

Does practising ballet barefoot make your feet stronger?star theater

No. It makes you get callouses on the bottom of your feet which helps with modern dance but doesn't matter at all for ballet because pointe shoes make calluses in different places. Also, your muscles are made a little bit stronger from the resistance of pointing the soft shoe, so if you really want to get stronger then wear full sole leather, not split-sole or canvas shoes.

And I really hope that by "tippy toes" you mean demi-pointe, because if you already know how dangerous it is to try full pointe on bare feet, why would you be doing it just to have a little fun?

Does practising ballet barefoot make your feet stronger?extension opera theater

Barefoot is better for the musculature of the foot, ballet or otherwise.

Be well.
no, dancing barefoot won't make ur feet stronger, but it will be the same as dancing with split sole slippers. actually, dancing with slippers that aren't split sole will make your feet stronger, because you have to work harder to get your turnout and to strengthen the core of your foot. If your goal is to get to pointe, you'll be better prepared dancing with full sole slippers.
No,because when u get into Pointe Shoes ur not used to ur toes crunched up in a toe box.Because when u go Barefoot ur toes spread out!!~

Is it too late to start taking ballet?

I am 16 years old and I have always wanted to do ballet. I have never taken any ballet classes but I did gymnastics for three years and I did cheerleading for seven years. What do you think?

1. It is never too late. Seriously, people start when they're fifty.

2. My ballet teacher, Gary Hubler, started dancing when he was about 18, in a recreational group. he then went on to perform in LA, Las Vegas, Chicago, and on Broadway. He recently retired from head of the dance department at Webster University in St. Louis. He is my idol.

3. Even if you don't go anywhere with ballet after you take it, you've made your life better by increasing your flexibilty, learning control and dedication, fighting obesity, abd generally becaoming a healthier, smarter, more well-rounded person.

Good luck with your decision!

I had danced for years and when I got to college there were people dancing right alongside me who hadn't trained long at all (some had just started as Freshmen in college). In fact, two of them are now dancing in NYC (whereas I'm wistfully daydreaming about it from the office).

In addition, ballet is truly the foundation for all other forms of dance. It might lead to your interest in other things (jazz, modern, tap, etc).

Above all else though, any dancer can tell you it's all in the heart. Whether it is a career or not, dance is a gift and an experience. I hope your mom comes around. Good luck!
No! its never too late. I started getting serious about ballet when i was older than most people and i love it! I know you will enjoy it, everyone does! okay not everyone, but go for it :)
Personally, I think it is too late. I have been dancing for 11 years now and if someone our age came into my class as a beginner, you would struggle alot. Unless you found a class for people your age whom are beginners. It is hard though to start now. My teacher will sometimes just shout out moves to do and we understand and can do it. You would have trouble.
No not at all, I don't think..It may be if you want to be a pro, but just sign up at a local studio. I have taken (classical) ballet since the age of 5 or 6, but you should be fine. thing is, most girls your age are on pointe. See if you can take regular class until you are ready. Ballet is fun, but it takes a lot of time and strength.the fact that u did gymnastics will help, because it's good to be flexible!Good luck!!

American Eagle ballet sneakers?

I ordered a pair of ballet sneakers from AE today:

http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product.jsp...

Does anyone have these? If so, are they comfortable? And oh yeah, what should I wear with these? I have a lot of Aeropostale tank tops and polos. Thanks :D

I really hated the comfort. The heel literally ripped open after 1 month. I personally didn't enjoy them, but since you already bought them, it's too late to get rid of them.

i am in ballet and have done it for about 4 years and jsut started again.. i really want to do pointe as soon as i can and i wanna be ready for it so are there any exercises i can do to help get more strength and more flexible feet ( plus a good arch)

jsut keep practicing everything you do in class you really can't speed up going to ponite you don't want to start to early because you can hurt yourself if you aren't ready
tendu's are really great for strengthening and improving flexible feet but make sure you point your feet until you get cramps in them. that should do it!
do some exercises like going up on demi- point and bending over. also, go to some point classes and take the class on flat. u do that 4 a while, and u will become very strong and when u get on pointe, u will b very good already! hope i helped!

I dance ballet...?

i started ballet when i was 12(late, i know) but the instructors thought i could do well because i had taken dance at school. i was actually pretty good, and they put me on pointe when i was 14. but i still cant do the splits or a full leap, so even though im best on pointe at the academy, i cant be in copany. what should i do?

I dance ballet...?theater seating

Stretch A LOT. It takes a lot of practice and flexibility to be able to do a split or a perfect leap. I've taken dance for the past 13 years and still have difficulties if I'm not completely stretched.

When you're watching TV or sitting doing homework, pop into a split. Sit with one leg straight out and the other leg bent behind you and stretch forward. Stretch by doing the 'butterfly' or by putting both legs out straight in front of you and lean over to touch your toes.

I know some dance teachers say it's wrong, but I was taught this way so you can take it or leave it: overstretch. Do a split, but place one leg on a chair or other surface (we used folded mats). You'll feel a stretch, but don't overdo it to the point where you pull a muscle.

Becoming more flexible takes effort. So be 100% dedicated. Picture a dancer with a perfect split, and say to your self that thats what you want. With any spare time, start stretching, and remember that if you get sore, it's one of those 'good pains.'

Good luck! :)

I dance ballet...?lyric opera opera theater

pracctive some more!
get a personal trainer even if only for a little while...you need strength and flexibilty...badly!
try streaching everyday and work on it everyday trying to fo the splits
Ask your instructors for specific exercises that you can do to increase your flexibility. They exist and your instructors can help you. It's never too late to increase your flexibility. Don't be discouraged. It will take a little time, but in a few months, you should be able to do the splits and a full leap.

Boxing and ballet?

To me, boxing is like a ballet, except there's no music, no choreography, and the dancers hit each other.

Boxing and ballet?theatre tickets

Boxing is a ballet based on choreographed stepping and arm movements that will enable you to beat your opponent or vise versa.

I love boxing and want SOOOOOOOOOOO much to see De La Hoya and Merryweather this Saturday night but I have to work-boohoo!

Why would ballet shoes be in style at my friends high school?

She says that a lot of people have been wearing single sole, black ballet slippers. I know they're comfortable, but isn't that a lot of money for shoes that will wear out quickly if your wearing them to walk around school and outside? Why would this be in style? Do you think its a good idea?

Why would ballet shoes be in style at my friends high school?hollywood theater

I don't think it is actual ballet shoes we are talking about. I think we are talking about flats with thin rubber sole (or other durable material designed to wear outside). It is not the real ballet slipper you could wear to a ballet class. They only look somewhat close to ballet slippers, but in reality they are street shoes. You can buy those at any department store. Yeah, they look cute on some people.

If it was real actual ballet slippers - no, I wouldn't recommend them as a regular shoe to wear for everyone. This would be just silly - why don't we all start wearing socker boots, or skiing boots. These shoes are designed to help your body to perform a certain task. They are not designed to give your foot proper support when walking.

Why would ballet shoes be in style at my friends high school?opera.com opera theater

Because they're desperate for attention...no, I lied.
Because people obviously have no regard for money and are just in it to be cool.
i don't know where u live, but from where im from there extremely in style. you have to decide whats more important. how you look, or how much money you have.

i personally choose how you look. if you get them, just get non cheap ones so they don't wear out.

the new coach ones have laster me a a few months already.
I love my ballet slippers. You can actually buy them in many variations, some with a good sole that will last for quite a while, especially if the uppers are made of a good leather. They are soft, feminine shoes that are very versitile. I wear mine with poth pants and skirts.
the ballet slippers, aka flats, are designed to have long-lasting soles (to fit trends) and can be bought in almost any fashion store(including discount ones).

well, i personally think they are comfy and convenient (not to mention how cute they are), since you can dress them up or down and fit almost any occasion. it's a good idea if you like it, but if you don't, it's just a trend and you don't have to follow it.
loser emo look
Becausethe "Chain Gang"aka skinny, drug users, bitches have mad this the style. Its to help you will you bunyons stay healthy and fresh, keeps you looking short.and helps you have you ballet shoes on atfer school,it will be in and out just a quick as uggs or crocs.dont fall into the Chain Gang wicked plan to get you
No way are kids wearing actual ballet slippers to school! Those things really aren't that comfortable!
theyre probably just ballet flats, which are designed to look like ballet slippers but aren't actually and are built more durably for everyday wear. chanel has been making them since forever but by now everyone is. however, if this school is kind of out in the middle of nowhere, people may have seen the trend and copied it by wearing actual ballet slippers because they couldn't find the flats. they would wear out quickly, but theyre like, 25 dollars a pair, which is not really that much money for a pair of shoes. yeah, i dont know about actual slippers, but the ballet flat look is very much in style.

Can I get in a ballet high school of arts ..or is it too late..?

I want to get in a school of arts for high school...but i dont know if im good enough...any ballet tips i can work on..? i started ballet when i was 3 years old..and im 13 now (end of 7th grade)......do you think its long enough...i wear toeshoes..but i want tips from a pro..but i dont know where i can find a tip from a ballerina.....help! any tips..or anything..like i should always have my back straight? anything!!

Can I get in a ballet high school of arts ..or is it too late..?

Are you trying to get into a specific high school ballet program or would you apply for several of them. No one can really say what your particular chances are for a specific program; you would just have to audition and see what happens. But in general, I don't see why you're so worried. You started ballet young, you wouldn't apply until next year, so you're right on time!

With some of the ballet boarding schools, the high tuition costs present the bigger hurdle than the audition requirements. A place like Virginia School of the Arts is fairly easy to get into, as long as you're a decent dancer, but once you're in, it's a tough program and very, very expensive. Many families also don't feel that their 9th grade kids are ready to go away to boarding school, so they wait until 11th grade to enroll.

You're at a good age to look into all of the schools and decide what you want to do. Join the "Ballet Talk for Dancers" message board to learn more about all of the Pre-professional schools and residence programs for ballet.

Takeing up ballet at 16??

my daughter is 16 years old and wants to start danceing ballet mainly... she been talking about it for a while now nad i think shes very serious about it what my question is do you think it is to late for her to take this up?

Takeing up ballet at 16??opera music

its never to late to tey something new. even some adults take lessons like these. if your daughter is sixteen, shes probably in high school. set some limits and tell her that she cant take ballet lessons unless she gets good grades. it will give her something for her to work for. Ballet also gives a great workout! Its very healthy for all parts of the body. Basically, no matter what age you are its never too late to start!

Takeing up ballet at 16??opera sheet music opera theaterit does not matter how old u r and i am 13 and i do ballet 5 times a week (high school) Report It

Why not?! It's never too late.
16, yeah... it is a tad too late if she wanted to be a professional dancer.

But if she wants to do it as a hobby, then you should support her and let her take the classes.

Good luck.
I've heard of football players taking it in college to enhance their game, and Julia Stiles, who played a dancer in one of her movies, took it up in her early twenties--she'd never studied it before and says she thought she always had 2 left feet.
It will never be too late..if its her dream and she is very serious about it..then support her all the way. She will need extra support from her mom because she is older than most girls who have been doing for many years. It will never be too late to start anything.
I fully support your daughter's decision. At 16 I wanted to be a cheerleader and an adult in my life told me that was not plausible. I never got the chance. Why take something like that away from your child? If she has the drive and determination jump at the chance of a lifetime.
Support her in this. It is so beneficial in so many ways. How far she is able to go is going to depend on her body shape, her feet, her dedication, her teacher and many other things. It may be a tad late for her to join one of the top professional companies but she could well dance with a regional or local company.

Depending on what is available in your area it is best to start with the school that JUST teaches ballet and it is best to have a teacher that was a professional dancer him or herself.

Don't expect to see her wearing a tutu and on point any time in the near future......if you do you have picked a school which will do more harm than good.
no.........its never too late to start dancing......but let her know that it'll be hard for her because she's older (unless she can pick up steps fast and idk how flexible she is). good luck:)
Of course not she should take Pre-Pointe now and then next year take Pointe, Pre-Pointe will make her ankles stronger and now what if will be like in regular Pointe classes!

GOOD LUCK!!!!!
it is not late to start dancing, however hopes of becoming the best or adored by the teacher is very unlikely. infact, teachers might not like her at all because she has transfered later. but this is for companies. probably community classes won't mind.
She can try, It's probably to late to become a professional, but she should try and get as far as she can with it. It's a lot of fun.

http://www.dance.net/topic/3810308/1/Bal...

Encourage her to try it. Reach for the moon, if you fall, you might catch a star. She should have fun! thats the whole point of dancing!
no its not too late. she can take a beginner class.

she might be with little kids.

or she might be with all aged people, some adults.

but depending on how good she gets she can move ahead.

although it will take a long time for her to get in the group with other 16 year olds who have been taking dance since they were 3 or so.

but thats no reason for her to not try something she wants to do.

Opera or ballet?

if you had to go to one, would you rather be subjected to opera or ballet?

Opera or ballet?phantom of the opera

I Have to say Ballet much better than opera

Opera or ballet?listen to opera opera theater

Ballet, but I love both of them..
ballet. i never been to an opera.
Modern dance not so much ballet.
I love both but I would have to choose the opera
Ballet... I love dancing and watching people express and act through dance. It is truly an art. Plus - beautiful costumes and Body grace :-)
Ballet as it is far more interesting! Though.... certain operas contain quite some ballet
opera.
Opera. They are both crap but i could sit at the opera and make funny noises and try to put off the singers.
can i say neither??? if i had to choose i guess ballet

I'm starting @ a new ballet school 2day!?

I'm so excited coz 2day i'm stating @ a new ballet school! i have been doing ballet for 5 years already though... i'm just a bit paramoid coz we r only alowed 2 wear a leotard and tights... i feel that i have fat thighs and i'm worried i will look fatter than all the other girls...

I'm starting @ a new ballet school 2day!?soap opera

Doesn't matter if you look fatter than the other girls - if you are serious about dance and you practice like you should the thighs will take care of themselves.

All you need to worry about is being the best you can be - if you are worried about your thighs then you are not focusing on what is important - the dance!

Good Luck!

I'm starting @ a new ballet school 2day!?city opera opera theater

If your thighs look too fat in that ballet school, I think you should choose a different one. As any professional will tell you, ballet is all about the thighs.
Hi - I bet you every other girl is worrying about the same thing !

If you love ballet as much as it sounds like you do - forget about your thighs %26amp; just dance !

Enjoy !!
this sounds like a more strict studio. if u want to continue to dance, u will have to get used to wear just a leo and tights. if ur not ok with that, u need to switch studios and go to a more layed back place. also, no offense, professional companies look for stick thin ppl, so keep that in mind too
dont worry about looking fat!!dancing is about having fun, not about whos the most anorexic or fattest person there
dont worry about how u look, its on the inside that counts, and just have fun with it! the teachers arent going to critique u on hoe u look. hope i helped!
Hey, I went through exactly the same thing when I changed ballet schools. I used to wear a wrap skirt ALL the time so when I had to wear just a leo and tights I felt so uncomfortable! I just lost a bit of weight and after a while I felt absolutely fine! Don't worry about any of the other girls..they probably have the same problems are you! =]
hey i ur a ballet dancer your definately gonna have good thighs. I am a professional hiphop dancer, i used to always "think" my thighs were fat and id never wear tights. But i went back to ballet 2 years ago and im in ballet 6. Your THIGHS R NOT FAT. And if you are self concious just work your thigh muscles out and theyll get firmer and thinner!!!!!

hop you doo well @ your new ballet school! Remember Your a dancer, any dance audition or class youll take throughout your life will have better and worse dancers than you. Youll have fatter and thinner girls , All u have to worry about is doing YOUR BEST. Dont be paranoid because they are all their for the same reason as you, to DANCE, if your a dancer than just be confident in yourself!!!!

Dance circles around those twig legg girls.

are you in pointe? or just ballet??
Here's one thing you should know: Don't worry about feeling fat! All of the girls in my ballet school are like anorexic twigs and I'm the only one who has a body. I get all the better parts because I'm different and unless you go to School of American Ballet or Tokyo Ballet School, they will pick based on 1: height but most of all, 2: technique and passion. Even if you looked the same as them, you need to have the eyes that make you look alive and passionate.

Men and ballet?????

Well, my friend and I were just discussing this the other day. My friend thinks like ALL ballet guys are gay but I don't think so. I know it doesn't seem to be the most manly thing with all the toe pointing, twirling, and tights but still, it takes a lot of strength and I don't think they all are. So what's your opinion? Can you give me statistics or something?

Thanks!

Men and ballet?????opera mini

What uneducated answers thus far.

I do not have any statistics, just general information. Of course not all male dancers are not gay. Many premier danseurs fall for their prima ballerinas and vice versa! The movie Ballet Russes has lots of this!

Male ballet dancers are made of muscle and must spend a lot of time working out. Their muscles develop long as opposed to those horrible, round (imho) body builder muscles. They must be strong enough to carry all those women, which ya know isn't a bad thing!

In romantic ballets, strong male charaters play heroes and villains, hardly a "girly' role!

When ballet first started there were NO women at all in it!

The "toe pointing" is a foundation of ballet, taught from day one, don't just dismiss it as feminine. Male specific ballet steps are difficult and require a wealth of experience, strength and fitness.

Hope I can puncture some all male dancers are gay myths.

Men and ballet?????passions soap opera opera theater

HECK NO there was this guy that took everything at my dance school tap jazz hiphop ballet everything and he was not gay tell you friend to stop sterotyping
That's a stupid judgment,

like saying women hockey players are lesbians, a common judgment.

Some probably are gay, and some probably aren't. I don't think people walk around to men dancers and ask their sexuality, so there aren't any statistics. 2 boys that danced at my company were not gay, both had girlfriends.
male ballet dancers are FIT!! tell your friend that she really shouldn't stereo-type people like that because she obviously doesn't have a clue.

it's just like saying policemen are gay, obviously some are and some aren't. durr
I don't think there are statistics... but I know male dancers... And they aren't gay. It's not like men wear tutus on stage... It requires so much strength to do those lifts... They're really masculine. Not gay at all.
Men are just as important in a ballet as the women! Just think about it, without any men, there would be no lifts and the atmosphere of the story telling would be ruined. Think about Swan Lake, one of the greatest ballets in the world. The handsome prince who falls in love with Edette, how would you perform that without any male dancers? The male dancers have superb endurance, stamina, strength and agility and have trained extensivley for years! Ask your friend if she thinks men who dance hip hop or street or dance along side perfromers on stage are gay?? I bet she would be no and just because ballet is danced to classical music, involves traditional costume and is associated with femininity doesnt mean that men who are talented enough to become a ballet dancer are gay! Peoples sexuality is a personal preference and isnt dependent upon their profession!
not all of us are gay. some are some are not. i find that some ballet dancers that are male get into dancing because they do like the costumes, tights, etc. Some dancers got into dancing because they have a passion for it. I fall into the first catergory. I love the entire world of ballet including the costumes. It's a tough sport, nd even though some gay guys do dance, they have to be in shape.

hope this helped
i think its their choice how they dance but it DEFF. does not make him gay. and without the men then their would be nobody to catch the girls when they leap. hahaha=]]
Not all of them are gay. I know a guy who's in Ballet West (SLC, UT) who's about as straight as they come. I actually think it takes a lot of man to get up there in tights and dance. However, it is pretty common for them to be gay.

Just a side-note, many professional football players take ballet during the off-season in order to gain and retain their strength.
Of course they aren't! I do ballet and we have a guy in our class. He plays football, watches Nascar, and does tons of other "manly" stuff. Your friend doesn't need to stero-type people (even though I can totally understand why she would think that)
Why is male dancers' sexuality an issue would be my question. Your answer is that the vast majority of male ballet dancers (danseurs) are straight. The % that are gay may be little higher than the general population, but not by much. I also have a son - former danseur, now a United States Marine that would like to have a chat with your "friend".... and maybe persuade him/her that not all danseurs are gay
Like most everybody said, not all of them are gay. I mean, a few are, but honestly it's not awkward or anything- if their hands slip you at least know it's not on purpose! Seriously though, you get a lot of guys who aren't gay at all and just love to dance, which is pretty cool.

P.S. You don't stereotype. It's actually a really good question.
Well some of the bests ballet dancers were men.

ex.Fernando Bujones, Michael Smuin

I hate it when people call them gay
it's just so gay and they're gay.

Typically for dance classes, the instructor will tell you what to wear and what supplies you need. your hair must be secure BEFORE CLASS , no gum ,no talking during class, wear clothes you wont have to figit with and only look in the mirror to help your placement not see what you look like to others.point shoes, i wouldnt, but bring them.

You may be astonished to learn that there are an equal number of heterosexual men who avidly participate in the ballet. What profession allows a man to be so close and intimate with a woman outside of sexual intercourse except ballet?

I agree with BuckFush: I am gay and I can't dance my way out of a paper bag!
You may think you see more gay men in the Ballet, but its just a place where men can feel free to express themselves in a way they cannot normally in society.

But, ladies, if you are not going after the straight male ballet dancers, then you are a fool. I mean, they have the most tight bodies I've ever seen!
I have a friend who goes to the ballet school in town and there are just as many straight men there as there are gay men. People just tend to think that they are all gay because of stereotyping.
Because they have deceived themselves to believe that they are women and can hide in ballet to hide their masculinity. They don't want to be real men... that is why

Try Payless. They have flat, white satin ballet slippers for like $15. I worked there years ago and we used to sell them all the time for weddings.

try target or amazon.com

i found my shoes on amazon for $7.00!!

they are last years models from target
do you have a K-mart near you? I know they aren't everywhere anymore but there's one by me and it's where I buy all of the dance stuff for my daughter. They also have ballet shoes and are pretty cheap. I think you could find them at Wal-Mart too but not sure
Once springtime hits, the shoe stores will be flooded with white shoes. Target %26amp; Payless are great options. For a variety, try DSW.
Have you tried dance supply stores in your town and on the net? There are some really lovely ballet slippers in online dance and discount wedding stores... even on Amazon (which I think have dyeable ones so you can adjust them to your dress if you change your mind on white...).

I've seen some lovely ones at www.weddingaccessories.net

and at www.dyeableshoecompany.com

Good luck on the shoe hunt!
Last year, ballerina pumps were HUGE in the UK. I stocked up on a couple of pairs of black and white ones, which would be ideal. I'm looking to wear heels, but I know I can't stand them for too long, so I'll probably end up wearing my white pumps. Try looking aruond in local shoe shops. you'll be amazed what you can find...
I wore silver ballet flats from Aldo...they were the stretchy, really comfortable kind. They are not available online, but I think they still have them in the store...they're on the kiosk in the middle, not where the "real shoes" are. They were only $25 and really comfortable. They probably have them in white.
Alternately, you could go to a dance supply store. They usually sell real ballet flats, often in white.

I've gotten several pair over the years for different weddings I've been in. If the bride doesn't care what shoes I wear, this is what I put on. Unfortunately, I'm not wearing them for my own wedding. Because it's outside, I didn't want to step on a sharp rock or something and be limping all day long.

Good luck!
payless shoe source is where my 6'2 (yes six foot two) friend found hers. Good luck.

I've never tried hydroxycut... chemical stimulants scare me. You might as well do speed.

HELP!!!SOS!!!!!!![ballet]kinda...

ok i have a REALLY bad habbit of going on en pointe in my street shoes and i m am trying really hard to stop it. i know its bad so dont make comments about that please. the thing is, is that when i started to do that, me ballet teacher moved me up to a harder class that people go 2 b4 they get there pointe shoes. so going up in my street shoes is kinda helping me(arch wise).wat do i do?????????[yes i know i gotta stop]

HELP!!!SOS!!!!!!![ballet]kinda...city opera

Hey! At least you are aware of what you're doing and are trying to stop. (Good for you!)

If you want to strengthen your arches, just keep doing releves and tendus- both make you work through that part of your foot. Also, stretch them out and stuff often. Remember too, that cold feet won't be nearly as limber, so if you can keep your feet warm before class, it'll be lots more productive!

Good luck with your bad habit- you can do it.

HELP!!!SOS!!!!!!![ballet]kinda...performing shows opera theater

if you only go up to help w/ your arch, try in your socks to put your toes under your foot and bed your knees, But do this one foot at a time. If it's just a bad habit with out any purpose, just stop everytime you think about it, don't go up. Self-willing ness
Going up on "pointe" in your street shoes is very dangerous. No it will not help your arches, it will only aid you in breaking your ankle or tearing ligaments. My suggestion is that you consistently work on your ankle and arches by doing many releves and eleves every day. Once your feet hurt you will know you are doing it right. Good luck.

Help in ballet??

Help in ballet??passions soap opera

Talk to your teacher about how you can improve your techinque. And in class, remember that it's not social hour - pay attention and really try to mimic what she is doing. Watch yourself in the mirror and if it doesn't look like what she's doing, practice at home until you can figure it out. If you don't understand something, ask.

Remember that most ballet moves require controlled movements through the ball of the foot. This is one of the biggest problems that beginning ballet students have - the lack of a pointed and flexible foot. Simply lifting your foot is not a degage. Simply raising your leg is not an arabesque. Simply jumping in the air is not a changement. Control the movement, point your feet, turn out your leg, and mirror the teacher.

Also, remember your lines. In plie, your bottom should not stick out, your shoulders should not tip forward, and your head should not look down. Your fingertips should never turn up (for the most part), your arms should always be in control, and you should always be as turned out as your body will allow (FROM THE HIPS, NOT THE FEET). Always pull up and be strong.

Control your movements, no flailing, and you may be able to improve your technique.

Good luck to you.

Help in ballet??mr messed up opera theater

Check out http://www.expage.com/SBTTips but make sure you turn down your volume because this website has music that can be loud.
You can go to the library and get some books on ballet. It helped me. This past year I was in ballet 3 and when the year was almost over they moved me to ballet 4 and I passed the level! So trust me those help. Also check out some video's and dvd's. You should ask your teacher why you didn't move on. Then ask her what you can do.
Ask your teacher why she didn't move you up, and ask her what you can do to improve. Generally with ballet there is always a reason. Ask her to help you with the extra workload, and if she can't see if she can get someone else to do so. And practice at home. Get your parents to set up a barre for you somewhere, even in the garage if necessary. Show your teacher that you are willing to put in the extra time and effort and you will be rewarded.
I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes it seemed to me as if everyone else was advancing ahead of me. A few things I would suggest to help are to:

-talk to your teacher: Teachers want to make their students better, so

there must be a reason that you stayed behind. Sometimes the truth is hard to take, but if you really want to improve, you should know what is hindering you. Also, I would suggest asking your teacher about specific things you could practice to improve and additional things you could do at home (stretching, exercises, etc.).

-stay after class: Spend as little as five minutes every day really thinking about the corrections you were given and work on them. It may help that you're in a less stressful environment. Plus, if your teacher sees you taking the initiative of staying after, he/she should be very impressed.

-keep a journal: My old teachers always told us to write down all our corrections after class. It sounds really corny but it can actually work, if you take it seriously. You don't have to write down every single correction, but if you notice that you tend to get the same correction over and over again, it should give you a signal that you should spend some extra time on what is hindering you.

-get inspired: Whenever I watch professional dancers, I am always inspired to lead their lives and to be just as good as them. When you watch really beautiful dance, you should leave with a sense of awe.

-be confident: Don't act cocky, but know that you are a good dancer and keep that in mind. Volunteer if someone needs to demonstrate. Try to go in the first group, and know the combinations. My teachers always tell me how confident I am compared to how I used to be, and have noticed a major change in my dancing, for the better.

Also, always, always, dance for yourself. If you aren't dancing for yourself, it's not even worth it. And, getting moved up, even though it is a good opportunity for more difficult dancing for the other girls, may be just a symbol of status in your mind (I am a major offender of that).

Best of luck to you!

I'm Grade Elementary in Ballet, can i teach children ballet class?

one of my friend opening a new dance school for children, it's difficult to find ballet teacher for children age 5-12 years old, so she ask me to teach in her studio, but i'm only grade elementary? can i? what's the risk to teach when you're not a "real" teacher?

the risks are enourmous ......... injuries to students from an inexperienced teacher is the main issue ... these are young bodies you would be preparing for the rigours of dance. Do you now what muscles are used in a demi plie? Can you name them? Can you tell the students how to engage their lower pelvic floor muscles? Do you know the full curriculum? will you be holding exams?

You defiantly could after all it is her Dance School and she can employ whomever she wants.

But some parents/students may not like the idea how your not qualified...

Also how do you know you are teaching students correct posture/technique without having any teaching qualifications.

I really do hope this helps =]
you probably could....
i wouldn't recomened it, since you havn't had enough training, you may teach them wrong techniques, and then they might get messed up
You can and totally should. Since you are the same age you will make new friends and it would be a blast! They would be your friends so they would give you respect.

Have you gone to a ballet?

in the US. Ballet of Russia - Cinderella?

What is a ballet like? Do they talk?

Have you gone to a ballet?home theater

I have attended and performed in many ballets. You will want to dress nice, as if you are going to a party or out to eat at a nice restaurant or something slightly formal. The dancers do not talk. A ballet is all about movement and facial expressions. They will also sometimes use arm/hand movements to pantomime conversations. Don't worry, though, if the company is any good (as the Ballet of Russia should definitely be!) you should be able to tell what is going on without any problems. Especially since I'm sure you're familiar with the story of Cinderella (if you're not, do a google search and read the story before hand). By the way, Cinderella is my favorite ballet! I have performed in it once and gone to see it twice. The music is beautiful and the costumes usually are too. I hope you enjoy your first ballet experience!

Have you gone to a ballet?comedy club opera theater

I attended the ballet in Berlin, Germany 20+ years ago. One time I saw the Nutcracker; another, Swan Lake. There was music and dancing, but no talking. It's a pretty neat experience, and worth going once to see if you enjoy it!
My town has an Academy of Ballet, we are a small town, less than 60,000 people. Please find yours in your town or rent the Nutcracker Ballet, there marvelous, mostly they are orchestrated not talking. Treat yourself go.
A ballet tells a story through dance and music. No spoken words,(then it would be an opera). If you've never been to one I'd suggest going to one at least once in your life.
Enjoyed it immensly but was very suprised that it was noisey. The dancers when then jump and land actually make a lot of noise. I went to a Christmas one so there was speaking and singing
I've gone to them, I've been in them, and I can assure you, there's no talking. If you live near a large city, there's almost always companies touring. I would suggest one of the old standards like Swan Lake, Giselle, or yes, Cinderella. Personally I like the American style of dancing over the Russian. American ballet is more athletic and exciting, whereas the Russian style seems to focus more on technique and slow sustained movement.
Nobody talks in a ballet. It's just dancing and mime.

I'm 14 and want to start ballet again, and possible go pro, is it to late?

I'm 14 and used to do ballet when i was 3-8. This may not sound like much but i was constantly told by teachers and professional dancers that I was extremely gifted and was put in a class with 12-13 year olds to challenge me. It's been six years since dancing and I would like to start again (this time ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical, and hip-hop) and i was wondering if its to late to go pro and be excepted into a school of ballet and become a prima ballerina.

I'm 14 and want to start ballet again, and possible go pro, is it to late?movie theatre

I think it's great that you wish to learn so many dance styles. Diversity in dance training is one of the many paths that can lead to a professional performing career, especially on the commercial side of the dance biz. However, I hope you realize that the elite ballet schools that produce over 90% of professional ballet dancers don't offer the line-up of dance styles that you'd like to take. For one, I doubt you'd find any professional who took lyrical after the age of 14, as it is not considered a serious dance style. And then since hip-hop is not grounded in the ballet vocabulary and draws from totally different roots, at best it would be considered a frivolous "extra" and, at worse, an interference to building top-notch ballet technique. If you doubt what I'm saying, simply check out the bios of the dancers at any professional ballet company to see where they have trained, and then look up those dance schools to see what classes they offer.

Right now, you're at the crossroads in determining which path you wish to pursue in dance. If you really want to give the pro ballet route a fair shot, then you'll need to jump into a bare minimum of 12 hours of ballet technique classes a week right now. You can add a class of jazz and/or modern if you'd like, as pre-professional 14 year olds should be taking a minimum of 15 hours a week of classes (not counting rehearsals). By December, you'll need to be ready to audition for summer programs, as their audition tours start in early January. Most elite ballet schools use their summer programs to evaluate potential candidates to their year-round programs.

However, if you choose to attend a dance studio where you take a bit of everything or which places a lot of emphasis on rehearsing routines for competitions, you'll be choosing a different professional career path that won't include being in a ballet company. You will still need to dance year-round by attending summer programs. Some competition studios continue competing during the summer. Meanwhile, you might also wish to start checking out college dance programs to further your diverse dance training, as it takes a lot of legwork to go see college dance performances first-hand to get a sense of what appeals to you.

I'd advise you to check out "Ballet Talk for Dancers" for tons of information on pre-professional ballet training:

14 to some would be getting there, but not too old YET.

just throw yourself into it, and practice practice practice.
its never too late. it will be hard getting back into that shape you were in when you danced but anything is possible. Some professionals didnt even start until they were teenagers!!
Not to late if you practice hard. If you want it hard enough you could
No way! It's not too late. I had a teacher who started at 17 years old and she is soooo awesome! Go for it, be persistent, and no matter what: DONT GIVE UP.
Definitely go for it and just practice and stay with it. You'll be able to get there if you just try and really want it. =)
of course u can try to go pro. i mean, u were talented when u took dance when u were young. look at Sabra the girl who won So You Think You Can Dance, shes only been dancin for 4 yrs!. its not too late if u work hard and are dedicated!

I want to start intense ballet .?

i grew up taking ballet classes, but when i was about 10 my favorite teacher left my studio, and soon after it closed. my mom had me begin taking classes at a different studio, but i quit soon after because the studio had put me in a level a lot lower than i should have been. after that i quit, i lost much of my flexability. when i was 13 i started again, not proffessionally, but taking classes once a week. i'm 14 now and want to take more classes, at a different studio thats more intense. the only thing is, i don't know how to tell my parents i tottally love ballet and want to try and be great at it.

just tell them really wat you want to do, they will support you anyway. Just do what your heart tells you!
Well your mom will probably be easiest to convince. Just tell her what you told us. You really love it and miss it.

*random tip

Try taking several "trial" classes at different studios until you find one you love.
go for it! it's your life and your dream, your parents should be cool with it. unless it costs a lot. but if it means that much too you surely you can find a way to help pay for it. if you do offer to help pay, that would show your parents that you are truly committed. whatever you do never give up on your dreams!

Anyone know a lot about ballet terms?

So I'm in a ballet class, and this past week my teacher told us to write down the steps so we could practice at home. Anyway, I wrote them down, and towards the end I wasn't really paying attention to the spelling of the terms. So, one of the terms I wrote down was "tambe." I'm somewhat new to ballet so when I got home I couldn't remember what that was. I tried googling it, but I obviously spelt it way wrong, because I can't find out what it means. Please if anyone knows, help me out! Thanks!

Anyone know a lot about ballet terms?dream theater

I'm glad that folks were able to provide you with a definition. However, I have to say, if you must ask what a term means, you're not going to practice it correctly. And practicing any move incorrectly is worse than not practicing at all, as it will take you longer to unlearn the wrong pattern. It's better to just do exercises at home than practicing steps.

Your dance studio doesn't sound like a program that focuses on instilling proper technique but is more interested in memorizing some dance routine. Knowing the proper terms is great and learning how to spell them is icing on the cake, but first and foremost, you need to know what a move looks like, sounds like and feels like before bothering with how it's defined and spelled in written form. Even visualizing the definition incorrectly can mess you up, as proper visualization is a powerful tool in dance.

Anyone know a lot about ballet terms?performing arts opera theater

tombe is the correct term it is a step in which a dancer falls from one leg to the other, landing with all the weight on the foot that has just moved, while flexing the knee.
I don鈥瞭 but these people do

http://www.messiah.edu/org/acclamation/B...
tombeis a slight fall somewhat similair to a lunge...usually followed by a potabourre(sp) glisade...

try googling videos of people doing them and you will understand..now thsat u have the right spelling
As the other answered have said, tombe is a slight fall or lunge on one leg, it is a preparatory step into another step....often pas de bourree'. Here is an excellent online ballet dictionary that is a great reference. It even has video clips of steps:

http://www.abt.org/education/dictionary/...

Here's a couple more:

http://www.theatredance.com/balletterm2....

http://www.geocities.com/borndancn/
It is called a tombe and it's like a little fall step before going into another step. Have fun in ballet class! I like taking ballet classes also. :-)
the above discriptions are correct. a tombe is a step out and demi plie' on that leg you just stepped out with ,the back leg staying straight.

AS FOR your school giving you homework and making you look up terms ... I think its awesome! no matter what others may say

you have just learned how to spell and do a step and thats more than what most dancers know already! I've taught and watched people who went to school and had degrees for dance and they didnt know what they were saying 1/2 the time! so you go girl.

my only suggestion is that you buy an illustrated terminology book on ballet and maybe even one on anything else you like like choreograohy or a modern style. ... Its something youll keep %26amp; use for the rest of your life.

Is mountain biking bad for ballet?

I just started taking ballet, im 15 and have been mountain biking frequently basically ever since i could ride a bike...how bad is it for having good leg form in ballet?

Is mountain biking bad for ballet?amc theatre

I am a former professional ballet dancer. yes, mountain biking can build up the wrong muscles for your art, not to mention not looking great in your line. Ballet is much more demanding than almost any other physical activity in terms of what it asks of your body. A lot of ballet companies make their dancers sign a contract about not indulging in other activities, like skating, skiing, etc. The other thing to think about is the potential for accidents.

If you're really a serious dancer, it's not worth the risk, but if you just enjoy ballet, but like doing other things just as much, go ahead. You're pretty old to be "just starting" ballet and expect to have any kind of profession in it, so maybe it's best to just keep doing what you like to do.

Is mountain biking bad for ballet?symphony opera theater

Shouldn't be. But I suppose that ballet is bad for mountain biking.
Only if you fall and "break a leg"!
no. it helps your leg musles get stronger. which is good for dancing!!
sort of
Both are complimentary to a firm body
I can't see it being a problem, unless getting large thighs is frowned upon in ballet. Bicycling does wonders for cardivascular fitness, improves balance and coordination, and is a great non-impact exercise for the legs too.

But it can lead to big, meaty thighs. I like my legs that way, so biking's the sport for me. :-)
well well well.

my older sister is a ballet teacher at 24, and i shall ask her.

one moment....

ok she said that mountian biking is ok, you just need to not do it as much. it will also create tension in the quadrasep and not allow you to stretch long enough. plus, you need to set your priorities!!!!! gosh, you want to be a pro mountain biker, in dirty mud, or you want to be an elegant the best you can be ballerina! goodness, well its not easy. its a whole other world.

what studio do you go to?
Professional dancers have very toned mucles. I don't see anything wrong with biking. It will help you gain strength. Keep with it!
hmm i never heard of that but it makes sense kinda but i don't think it will bother u much really.u need muscles for ballet just in the right areas u know.
